Game Recap: Hobart Basketball | | Ken DeBolt

Statesmen ground Raptors 97-58

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team led from start to finish in its 97-58 Liberty League win over Bard College this evening. The Statesmen posted season highs for points, field goals made (34), 3-pointers made (13), and blocked shots (6) on their way to a fourth straight win.

First-year guard Dan Masino led four Statesmen in double digits with a game-high 19 points, including a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the 3-point arc. Junior guard Colin Dougherty added 16 points, junior guard Jamal Lucas notched 11 points and sophomore guard Tucker Lescoe added 10 points. First-year guard Jack Lesure led Hobart to a 42-34 rebounding advantage, finishing the night with a game-high 11 boards and seven points. Sophomore forward Edens Fleurizard blocked a game-high four shots.

The Statesmen (10-3, 5-1) shot 52 percent from the floor, 54 percent from 3-point range and 84 percent at the free throw line. Eleven of the 12 Hobart players to enter the game recorded at least two points.

Bard (4-8, 2-3) got a team-high 12 points from Emmanuel Oyakhilome. Jelani Bell-Isaac and Josh Etukudo shared team-high honors with eight rebounds.

Hobart jumped out to a 7-2 lead before the contest was two minutes old, but Bard closed the gap to just two over the next two minutes. Over the next seven minutes, the Statesmen used a 16-3 run to blow the game open. Dougherty kick-started the surge with a traditional 3-point play and Lescoe capped it with a layup for a 25-10 lead with about nine minutes remaining in the half.

Oyakhilome slowed Hobart's momentum, if only briefly, with a jumper to make it a 13-point game, but Dougherty answered with a layup and Masino followed with a 3-pointer to extend Hobart's advantage to 18-points. The Raptors got within 14 twice in the waning minutes of the half, but Dougherty's free throws in the final minute sent the Statesmen into the break with a 48-29 lead.

In the second half, Hobart never let its lead dip below 18 while stretching it to as many as 39.

The Statesmen will be home again at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, when they host Skidmore College (9-3, 5-1). The Thoroughbreds won 77-76 in overtime at Rochester Institute of Technology tonight. Bard plays tomorrow at 4 p.m. as well, visiting Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
