GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College basketball team picked up its first Liberty League win of the season, defeating Bard College 88-39. The Herons had four players in double figures, led by first-year guard
Stavriana Dimitrakopoulou's season-high 25 points.
Dimitrakopoulou was 10-of-17 from the floor, including 4-of-9 from 3-point range, and 1-of-2 at the free throw line. Junior forward
Mia Morrison added 20 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Senior guard
Kendra Quinn-Moultrie and junior forward
Adrianne Torea each contributed 10 points. In addition to Torea's career-high scoring effort, she also matched her career-high with eight boards. First-year guard
Juliana Gamboa posted a game and season-high seven assists.
William Smith (7-6, 1-5) shot 47 percent from the floor, matching their season-high with eight 3-pointers. The Herons held the Raptors to 26 percent shooting, including 3-of-20 from long range. William Smith dominated on the glass, outrebounding the visitors 52-27.
Bard was led by first-year forward Katie Esposito's 15 points and six rebounds.
The Herons opened the game on an 11-2 run and never looked back. Morrison made the first two field goals of the game on layups followed by a jumper from Quinn-Moultrie. Morrison deposited another layup for an 8-0 lead before Katie Esposito got the visitors on the board with a jumper. Dimitrakopoulou capped the opening run with a 3-pointer.
William Smith led 24-10 at the end of the first quarter and 43-22 heading into halftime. Morrison led all scorers with 16 points at the break. Esposito paced Bard with eight points.
In the third quarter, the Herons kept their foot on the gas, winning the frame 30-11, on the way to their most lopsided win of the year.
William Smith is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 13, when the Herons host Skidmore. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Raptors will also play tomorrow at 2 p.m., traveling to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
