Statesmen skate past #11/13 Norwich 4-1

Four different Statesmen scored as the No. 14/15 Hobart College hockey team defeated No. 11/13 Norwich 4-1 in an NEHC game played this evening in Northfield, Vt. The Statesmen improve to 10-5-4 overall and 7-3-2 in conference action.

The Cadets fall to 12-5-1 overall and 8-2-1 in the NEHC. It's the second time Hobart and Norwich have met this season. The teams played to a 2-2 tie back on Nov. 11, 2017, in Geneva. Sophomore Alexander Connal played all 60 minutes in goal for Hobart and made 22 saves.

First-year Andrew Longo gave the Statesmen an early 1-0 lead, notching an unassisted goal just 2:31 in. It was his fourth goal this year. The Cadets responded 4:46 into the second, when Jordan Hall scored off assists from Alec Brandrup and Ryan Boucher. Junior Jonas Toupal reclaimed the lead for Hobart with a power-play goal with 3:22 left in the middle period. Toupal leads Hobart with 12 goals this winter. Sophomore Lawson MacDougall was credited with the assist.

The Statesmen added two more goals late in the third. Senior Ben Greiner registered his fifth of the year with 1:02 left in regulation. Sophomore Julien Denicourt set up the play. First-year Travis Schneider notched his fourth goal of the season with 40 seconds remaining for the final score. Senior Andrew Silard logged the assist.

The Statesmen finished with a 36-23 advantage in shots. Hobart went 1-for-5 on the power play and killed both of Norwich's power-play attempts. Braeden Ostepchuk made 32 saves in 59:02 in goal for the Cadets.

The Statesmen are back in action on Friday, Jan. 26, when they host  New England College for another NEHC game at 7 p.m.
