Herons to host Bombers, Tigers on Alumnae Weekend

The William Smith College basketball team will host a pair of Liberty League games during its annual Alumnae Weekend. The Herons will host Ithaca College on Friday night followed by a Saturday matinee against Rochester Institute of Technology.

William Smith is riding a four-game winning streak into the weekend. The Herons are 10-6 overall and 4-5 in conference play. The Bombers are 11-5 overall, 6-3 against the league. Ithaca won the most recent meeting between the two teams back on Jan. 6, posting a 72-52 victory on its home floor. A tightly contested series which began in 1986, William Smith holds a 22-20 lead, including 13-8 in Bristol Gymnasium. Friday's tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

On Saturday, former Herons will don the green and white one more time for the annual alumnae game tipping off at 10 a.m. followed by an alumnae breakfast in the Heron Hall of Honor.

William Smith faces the league-leading Tigers (12-3, 7-2) at 2 p.m. Back on Jan. 5, the Herons led RIT as late as the 2:40 mark of the fourth quarter, before the Tigers made a late push to gain an 83-75 win. Since first meeting back in 1989, William Smith leads the series with RIT 26-9, including 13-4 in Geneva, but the Tigers have won each of the past eight meetings.

Following the game, Heron alumnae are invited to a reception at Eddie O'Briens on Seneca St.

Both William Smith games will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7). Fans can also follow the action online with All-Access Video and Live Stats.
