Tigers top Herons 78-56

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College junior Mia Morrison scored 19 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked two shots, but Rochester Institute of Technology got twin 20-point performances from junior Tara Lynch and first-year Sabrina Wolfe in a 78-56 win over the Herons.
 
The Liberty League leading Tigers (15-3, 9-2) took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring William Smith 23-9. RIT led 19-16 through 10 minutes and the teams traded baskets to start the second frame, but nine straight points by the visitors helped them build a 32-20 lead. The Herons broke out of their scoring drought on a 3-pointer from senior Kendra Quinn-Moultrie (14 pts, 6 rebs). The Tigers ended the half on an 8-0 run to carry a 42-25 lead into halftime.
 
Lynch led all scorers through 20 minutes with 14 points. Quinn-Moultrie and Morrison both had 10 points to pace William Smith (10-8, 4-7).
 
RIT kept up the defensive pressure in the third quarter, outscoring the Herons 15-7, building a 57-32 lead. The Tigers didn't let their lead slip below 20 points in the fourth quarter.
 
Lynch was 8-of-12 from the floor and 4-for-4 at the line. Wolfe made 8-of-11 with a 3-pointer and went 3-for-3 on free throws. Senior Amanda Olson contributed a double-double for RIT on 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
 
The Tigers shot 51 percent from the floor, including 63 percent in the first half, and shot 83 percent at the charity stripe.
 
William Smith shot 31 percent from the floor and struggled at the line, making just 8-of-17.
 
The Herons will be back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 30, when they host Rensselaer at 6 p.m.
