The William Smith College soccer team moved up one spot to No. 7 in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll after posting a pair of Liberty League wins last week.

The Herons (7-2-0, 3-0-0) begin a four-match road trip on Wednesday, Oct. 3, visiting No. 22 Ithaca College (8-0-2, 2-0-0). It will be William Smith's fourth match this season against a nationally-ranked opponent. The Herons defeated then No. 4 Hardin-Simmons to open the season, topped then No. 5 Messiah a week later and lost a 2-1 decision at No. 24 Misericordia on Sept. 19.

William Smith has three players with 10 or more points this season, led by senior
Megan Barwick's 12 points on five goals and two assists. Sophomores
Sheila McQuillen and
Julia Keogh are right behind her with 10 points each. In goal, first-year
Amanda Kesler has started six matches and boasts a 0.64 goals against average, a .714 save percentage and a 4-2-0 record.

Sophomore Alex Epifani paces the Bomber offense with 14 points on four goals and a team-high six assists. Senior Shoshana Bedrosian has a team-high five goals. Junior goalkeeper Sara Jakobsze has started every game, recording a 0.29 GAA, an .885 save percentage and an 8-0-2 record.

Since first squaring off in 1987, William Smith and Ithaca have played 30 matches with the Herons holding an 18-8-4 lead in the series. The past six meetings between the teams have been played in Geneva or at a neutral site. They haven't met in Ithaca since Sept. 30, 2009, a 1-0 William Smith triumph.
