POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-The Hobart College soccer team was defeated by Vassar 2-0 in Liberty League play at Gordon Field this afternoon. The Brewers scored twice in the second half as they picked up a key conference win.
Hobart is now 6-6-2 overall this season and 5-2-1 in league play. Vassar impoves to 9-4-0 overall and 5-2-0 in conference.
The Brewers had the game's first scoring opportunity in the 11th minute but Henrik Olsson's shot went wide right. Two minutes later, the Statesmen had their first opportunity of the game but sophomore
August Martini's shot off a
Pete Critchlow corner kick was stopped by Vassar goalie, Will Marment.
Martini had another opportunity in the 50th minute that Marment stopped with a diving save.
Vassar opened the scoring in the 62nd minute when Mattie Mrlik fired home his third goal of the season. Nathan Logan was credited with an assist on the goal after hitting Mrlik with a perfect crossing pass. Logan added a goal of his own with 15 seconds remaining in regulation. Logan intercepted a clearing pass and broke past the Hobart backline. With only the goalkeeper to beat, Logan launched the shot into the right post.
Senior
Alec Kaminer played all 90 minutes in goal for Hobart making two saves. Marment made three saves for the Brewers.
Both teams finished the game with 11 shots but Hobart earned a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
Hobart will be back in action Tuesday afternoon when it welcomes Utica to Cozzens Field. The match against the Pioneers is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
