GENEVA, N.Y.-The sixth-ranked Hobart College hockey team used a three goal second period to pull away from Elmira 6-2 in nonconference action at The Cooler this afternoon. With the win, the Statesmen are now 2-0-0 on the season.

Senior captain
Jonas Toupal led the way for Hobart with three points (2g, 1a). Sophomore
Travis Schneider also scored a pair of goals in the win. Fellow sophomore
Mike Faulkner had a goal and an assist. Senior
Alexander Connal made 18 saves in 60 minutes of action for the Statesmen. Connor Powell scored twice and Matthew Cuce had two assists in a losing effort for Elmira (0-2-0). Gennaro Anzevino made 24 saves in 60 minutes in goal for the Soaring Eagles.

Schneider opened the scoring at the 13:15 mark of the first period. He broke up a clearing attempt at the blue line, deked around Anzevino and tucked the puck across the goal line.

Powell tied the game at one with his first goal of the game. His power play goal was assisted by Matthew Cuce and Anthony Parrucci.

The Statesmen broke the game open with three goals in a span of three minutes. Toupal sandwiched goals around a power-play goal from Schneider. Toupal's first goal was assisted by first-year
Chase Bell. Schneider's power-play goal at 17:56 of the second period would prove to be the game-winner.
Ryan Lynch and
Julien Denicourt were credited with assists on the goal. Just over a minute later Toupal scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Faulkner was credited with an assist, following a spectacular individual effort that saw him dance around the offensive zone, drawing two defenders and the goalie to the right post. Faulkner then slid a pass to Toupal in the left faceoff circle and Toupal blasted a one-timer into the vacated goal.

Faulkner scored a goal of his own 54 seconds into the third period. His point shot deflected off a defender on the right post and Anzevino's right skate and into the goal.

Powell ended the Statesmen's four goal run at the 4:30 mark of the third. Cuce and Nick Ford were credited with assists on the goal.

Junior
Lawson MacDougall rounded out the scoring with just under a minute remaining in regulation. Toupal and
Zach Sternbach were credited with assists on the game's final goal.

Hobart finished the game with a 30-20 edge in shots on goal. Both team's scored on the power play. Hobart was 1-for-5 with the man advantage while Elmira was 1-for-6.

The Statesmen will be back in action next weekend when they embark on a three-game road trip. Hobart opens NEHC play on Friday, Nov. 2, when they visit Castleton. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
