GENEVA, N.Y.-The ninth ranked William Smith College soccer team cruised to a 4-1 victory over Westfield State in a NCAA tournament first round game played on Boswell Field at David J Urick Stadium this afternoon. The Herons improve to 15-3-0 this season.

Westfield State finished its season with a 10-7-3 overall record. William Smith awaits the winner of today's second game, Tufts vs. Penn State Behrend, to determine who they will play in tomorrow's second round. The game will begin at 1 p.m. on Boswell Field.

Amanda Adams led the way for the Herons with a pair of goals. Sophomore
Julia Keogh had two assists and sophomore
Sheila McQuillen added a goal and an assist.

William Smith jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the half. Senior
Sarah Olick-Sutphen opened the scoring just 4:37 into the match with her third goal of the season. She picked up a loose ball near mid field and passed the ball to
Merilyn Hinrichs, who one touched the ball to
Julia Keogh. Keogh slid the ball to Olick-Sutphen on the left side of the box. Olick-Sutphen buried the shot into the left half of the cage.

Adams scored the next two goals for William Smith. In the 18th minute, she one-timed a crossing pass from Keogh past Natalia Falcone. Just under nine minutes later, she tapped a
Sheila McQuillen centering pass over the goal line. McQuillen dribbled the ball down the right wing, crossed it into the box and found Adams, who was standing just in front of the goal line. Adams' tallies were the first two goals of her collegiate career.

In the 50th minute McQuillen added a goal of her own to put the Herons on top 4-0.
Mariah Deschino slid a through ball to McQuillen at the top of the 18-yard box. McQuillen took two steps and fired a shot between Falcone and the right goal post.

The Owls broke the shutout with a goal in the 62nd minute when Ashley Levya scored her fifth goal of the season. Bella Eduardo was credited with an assist on the goal.

Falcone made five saves in 90 minutes in goal for the Owls. Romines made two saves in 58 minutes of action for William Smith.
Amanda Kesler and
Kaileen Murray played the final 32 minutes in goal for the Herons.

The Herons finished the game with a 16-4 edge in shots and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
