Dan Masino each recorded a game-high 12 points for Hobart College, but the University of Rochester posted an 81-63 victory in a non-conference men's basketball showdown tonight. The Yellowjackets improved to 4-0, while the Statesmen slipped to 1-2.
UR got off to a fast start, shooting 52 percent from the floor in the first half, including 7-of-12 from 3-point range. Hobart, meanwhile, struggled out of the gate, making just 22 percent in the first half. Rochester used a 15-6 run to build a 23-10 lead and closed the half on a 17-5 run to carry a 47-23 lead into halftime.
Midway through the second half, Hobart scored seven straight points to trim its deficit to 18, but that was as close as the visitors would get.
Masino was 4-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-6 at the line. Dougherty was 3-of-8 with a 3-pointer and 5-of-9 at the line. Juniors
Tucker Lescoe and
Edens Fleurizard each finished with nine points. Fleurizard was Hobart's leading rebounder with seven.
Seven Rochester players scored eight points or more. Ryan Algier (11 pts., 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 blocks) was the scoring leader in 19 minutes off the bench. Alexander Gamble had 10 points. Ryan Clamage had 9 points, 9 rebounds, and seven assists. Trent Noordsij scored 9 points.
Hobart will conclude its four-game, season-opening road trip at St. John Fisher on Tuesday, Nov. 27. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
