GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College basketball team had five players reach double digits in its home debut tonight against the College at Brockport. Senior
Mia Morrison produced a game-high 19 points to lead the Herons.
William Smith (2-1) shot a season-high 48.5 percent from the floor, making a season-high seven 3-pointers. The Herons also dominated the boards, outrebounding the Golden Eagles 46-30. Morrison enjoyed an 8-of-15 shooting night. First-year
Amy Dooley connected on 6-of-9 from the floor, posting a season-high 14 points to go with five boards. Sophomore guard
Juliana Gamboa notched 13 points, a game-high seven rebounds and a game-high six assists. Senior
Olivia Hughes registered 12 points, five assists and two blocked shots and sophomore
Stavriana Dimitrakopoulou added 11 points.
Brockport (2-3) had three players in double figures led by first-year Kylee Rosbrook's 14 points. Junior Bailey Pratt and first-year Alison Chiera each had 10 points.
William Smith torched the Bristol Gym nets early, shooting 52.6 percent from the floor in the first quarter and a blistering 63.2 percent in the second quarter on the way to a 55-29 halftime lead. The Herons were in the zone right from the get go, jumping out to a 14-2 lead. Junior
Emma Gallagher and Dimitrakopoulou keyed the opening run with five points apiece.
In the second quarter, it was a 15-2 run that really broke open the scoring. Dooley accounted for half of her scoring total during the surge that turned a 12-point Heron advantage into a 25-point chasm.
Brockport came out of halftime with a 13-3 run to keep things interesting. Rosbrook led the way with four points. The Golden Eagles got within 12 twice in the final frame, but got no closer.
William Smith will open conference play on Friday, Nov. 30, when the Herons host Union (2-1) at 5 p.m. Brockport will start SUNYAC play on Friday as well, traveling to Cortland for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
