#12 Cadets top #5 Statesmen

NORTHFIELD, Vt.-The fifth-ranked Hobart College hockey team was defeated by 12th-ranked Norwich 3-1 in a NEHC Conference game at Kreitzberg Arena this afternoon. Hobart is now 3-1-0 on the season and 1-1-0 in conference play.
 
Three different players scored goals for the Cadets (2-0-1, 2-0-0). Tom Auburn made 25 saves in goal for Norwich. Senior Matt Pizzo scored Hobart's goal. Junior Alexander Connal made 27 saves in 58 minutes in goal for the Statesmen.
 
After a scoreless first period, the Cadets struck just 1:16 into the middle period. Jack Griffin picked off a loose puck in the Hobart defense zone and fed the puck down low to Coby Downs on the left wing. He skated into the faceoff circle and wristed a shot over Connal's glove. Norwich extended its lead on a two man advantage. Dave Robertson fired a shot from the point through traffic that beat Connal glove side. Felix Brassard was credited with an assist on the power-play goal.
 
Noah Williams added an insurance goal for Norwich at 11:35 of the third period. Maxime Borduas and Gabriel Chicoine were credited with assists on Williams' first collegiate goal.
 
Hobart broke the shutout with 31 seconds remaining in regulation when Pizzo scored his first goal of the season. His power-play goal was assisted by Zach Sternbach. Pizzo blasted a shot from the point through traffic and into the back of the net.
 
Norwich finished the game with a 30-26 edge in shots on goal. Both teams scored a power-play goal. Norwich finished the game 1-for-5 on the power play while Hobart was 1-for-7 with the extra attacker.
 
The Statesmen will wrap up their three-game road trip next Saturday, Nov. 11, when they take on Oswego. Faceoff at the Marano Campus Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.
