Statesmen ace final test before exams

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team passed its final test before final exams start tomorrow. The Statesmen posted an 81-43 victory over SUNY Poly in a non-conference game in Bristol Gym tonight.

The Statesmen produced season-highs for field goals made (32), field goal percentage (.516), 3-pointers made (11), 3-point field goal percentage (.458), rebounds (42), assists (23), and steals (12).

Senior Sean McKinless scored a career-high 18 points, all from beyond the 3-point arc. He finished the game 6-of-7 from distance. McKinless also had a game-high three steals. Senior Colin Dougherty contributed 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including three 3-pointers. He also collected a game-high eight rebounds. Junior Edens Fleurizard notched 16 points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots. Sophomore Jack Lesure chipped in 13 points and four assists. Junior Tucker Lescoe dished out a game-high five assists.

Sophomore Josh Gregory was the only Wildcat in double figures, recording 14 points and three blocked shots.

After trading baskets early, Hobart (4-5) seized control of the game with 10 straight points. McKinless started the run from long range and Fleurizard followed with an old fashion 3-point play. Dougherty made a jumper in the paint and Fleurizard capped the run with a layup on the fast break off a steal by McKinless.

SUNY Poly (2-7) countered with six straight points to get within three, but first-year Matt Kitzman stopped the run with a jumper in the paint and Lesure made it an eight-point lead with a tradition 3-point play.

Hobart broke the game wide open midway through the first half with a 16-2 run. McKinless sank three 3-pointers during the surge and Lesure added a fourth. The Statesmen carried a 39-18 lead into halftime.

Hobart maintained a double digit lead throughout the second half. The Statesmen rattled off 17 straight points late in the frame to build their largest lead of the game, 81-40.

Following a three-week break, Hobart will return to Liberty League play on Jan. 4, 2019, when the Statesmen host RIT.
