Rams upend #12 Statesmen 5-2

CHARLESTOWN, Mass.-The 12th-ranked Hobart College hockey team was defeated by Suffolk 5-2 in a New England Hockey Conference contest at Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink this evening. The Statesmen are now 6-4-0 overall and 4-3-0 in the NEHC.
 
Mikhail Bryan recorded a game-high four points (2g, 2a) in the victory for the Rams (4-6-0, 2-5-0). His linemates, Jack Kelly (3a) and Tommy Bishop (2g, 1a) had three point games for Suffolk. Michael Levine made 45 stops in 60 minutes in goal as he secured his fourth win of the season. Junior Lawson MacDougall and sophomore Travis Schneider scored goals for Hobart. First-year Liam Lascelle made 17 saves in 60 minutes for the Statesmen.
 
MacDougall opened the scoring with his fifth goal of the season at the 5:13 mark of the first period. First-year Blake Coffey was credited with an assist on the goal. MacDougall collected a pass from Coffey in the slot and fired a shot between Levine's legs and into the back of the net.
 
Bishop put the Rams in front with a pair of goals three minutes apart. His first goal at the 12:28 mark of the first period was assisted by Jack Kelly and LJ Fellows. His second goal of the game gave Suffolk a 2-1 lead. Kelly and Bryan notched assists on the goal.
 
Hobart controlled the second period but could not solve Levine. The Statesmen finished the second stanza with a 19-3 edge in shots on goal. The Rams' defense backed him up blocking an additional nine shots.
 
Bryan extended the lead to 3-1 with his first goal of the game at the 2:54 mark of the third period. Kelly and Bishop collected assists on the goal. Just past the 10 minute mark Sean Montgomery gave the Rams a three goal lead. Jared MacCracken and Bryan notched assists on the goal.
 
Schneider's seventh goal of the season ended Suffolk's four goal run. His power-play goal was assisted by senior Jack Macnee.
 
Bryan added an insurance goal at the 16:57 mark of the third period. Brian Brooks and Fellows notched assists on the goals.
 
Hobart finished the game with a 47-22 edge in shots on goal. Hobart was 1-for-3 on the power play while the Rams were 2-for-3 with the extra attacker.
 
Hobart will conclude its four game road trip tomorrow in Providence, R.I. The Statesmen are scheduled to take on Johnson and Wales at 4 p.m.  The Wildcats were defeated by Skidmore 7-3 on Friday night.
