ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The William Smith College basketball team never trailed during its 67-48 Liberty League win at Bard College this afternoon. The Herons shot 40 percent from the floor while limiting the Raptors to 29 percent shooting.
Junior
Mia Morrison led the Herons with 17 points. Sophomore
Emma Gallagher recorded 14 points, a game-high eight rebounds and six assists. She was 6-of-7 shooting, making both of her 3-point attempts. Senior
Kendra Quinn-Moultrie scored 12 points. First-year
Juliana Gamboa dished out a game-high seven assists, one more than Bard recorded as a team.
The Raptor's Elena Lefevre led all scorers with 21 points.
Early in the first quarter, Lefevremade a jumper to tie the game at 4. It was the only tie of the contest. William Smith (13-10, 7-9) countered with a 7-1 run that included a pair of buckets from Morrison and a traditional 3-point play by first-year
Stavriana Dimitrakopoulou. The Herons led 25-16 after the first quarter.
A four minute span in the second quarter broke the game open. William Smith's 12-1 run turned a seven-point advantage into an 18-point lead. Gallagher fueled this surge with seven points.
Bard (0-22, 0-16) scored the six of the final eight points of the half to go into the break trailing 55-37. Gallagher had a game-high 12 points at halftime.
The Herons maintained at least a 16-point advantage throughout the second half, expanding their lead to as many as 23.
William Smith moved into a tie for the sixth and final playoff spot in the Liberty League standings. The Herons will close out the regular season at home, hosting Vassar (16-7, 11-5) on Friday, Feb. 16 and Union (7-14, 4-11) on Saturday, Feb. 17.
