Eric Holden recorded his second career hat trick but Cornell used a nine goal run to storm past Hobart 15-8 at Schoellkopf Field this afternoon.

Holden had a team-high five points (3g, 2a) for the Statesmen (0-3). Juniors
Bryan Hancock (2g) and
Chris Aslanian (1g,1a) each had multi-point games for Hobart. Junior
Tristan Dougherty made eight saves in goal.

The Big Red (1-1) were led by Jeff Teat's 10 points (4g, 6a). Clarke Petterson (4g), Matt Licciardi (2g), and Jordan Dowiak (2g) also had multi-goal games for Cornell. Licciardi was 10-19 at the faceoff-X while Kason Tarbell had a game-high five ground balls. Christian Knight made 19 saves in goal for the Big Red.

The Big Red opened the scoring with Teat's first goal of the game at 12:16 of the first quarter. The Statesmen rattled off the game's next five goals and held a 5-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Junior
Kyle Grimaldi scored his first career goal to start the Hobart run at the 9:24 mark. Holden was credited with an assist on the goal. Two minutes later, Hancock pocketed his first goal of the game with an unassisted goal. Thirty-seconds later, Holden fired home his first goal of the game. The man-up goal was assisted by first-year
Ryan Archer. Aslanian extend the Statesmen lead to 4-1 with an unassisted goal at 4:25 of the first quarter. Sophomore
Justin Scott's second goal of the season put Hobart up 5-1 with 2:16 left in the opening quarter. First-year
Dan Ryan notched an assist, his first collegiate point, on Scott's goal.

Jake Mcculloch broke up Hobart's run with a man-up goal with 73 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The man-up goal sparked a nine goal run for Cornell that lasted until the 10:59 mark of the third quarter.

Teat had a hand in Cornell's next five goals as the Big Red scored all six of the game's second quarter goals. He scored twice and assisted on three more as Cornell pulled in front 8-5 at halftime.

Connor Fletcher and Matt Licciardi scored 60 seconds apart to open the third quarter and give the Big Red a 10-5 lead at the 12:22 mark of the third quarter.

Holden ended the Cornell run with his second goal of the game and seventh of the season at the 10:59 mark of the third quarter. The Big Red scored the next three goals and led 13-6 at the end of the third quarter.

Holden completed the hat trick 55 seconds into the fourth quarter. His eighth goal of the season was assisted by Aslanian. The teams traded goals to close out the game. Hancock scored his third goal of the season while Clarke Petterson scored Cornell's final two goals.

Cornell held a 28-25 edge in ground balls and was 1-for-2 with the man up. Hobart held a 39-32 edge in shots and was 1-for-6 with the man up. Both teams finished the game with 13 faceoff wins.

Hobart will be back in action next Saturday, March 3, when Binghamton comes to Boswell field. Faceoff is scheduled for noon.
