The Hobart College hockey team will travel to take on Norwich University in the New England Hockey Conference Tournament championship game on Saturday, March 3, at 7 p.m.

Hobart is ranked No. 8 in this week's D3hockey.com poll and No. 9 in the USCHO.com poll. In addition, the Statesmen are ranked No. 3 in the latest NCAA regional rankings.

The Statesmen are the No. 2 seed in the tournament, and bring a 17-5-5 overall record to Northfield, Vt. Hobart is riding a 10-game unbeaten streak. The Statesmen and the Cadets have met three times already this season. Hobart and Norwich battled to a 2-2 tie in The Cooler on Nov. 11. On Jan. 20, the Statesmen earned a 4-1 victory, and on Feb. 9, the Statesmen edged the Cadets 5-4. The last two meetings took place in Vermont.

The championship game will be a battle of the top two defensive teams in the NEHC. The Statesmen rank first in scoring defense (1.89 ga/gm) and the Cadets are second (2.00 ga/gm). Hobart ranks second in the league in scoring offense (3.85 g/gm) and Norwich is third (3.33 g/gm).

Jonas Toupal leads Hobart with 31 points on 15 goals and 16 assists. Sophomore
Lawson MacDougall has dished out a team-high 20 assists and added four goals for 24 points. Senior
Frank Oplinger and sophomore
Alexander Connal have split time in goal. Oplinger is sporting a 2.06 goals against average, a .916 save percentage and an 8-2-3 record. Connal has a 1.69 goals against average, a .929 save percentage and a 9-3-2 record.

The Cadets are the tournament's top seed and have a 19-6-2 overall record. Norwich is ranked No. 11 by both USCHO.com and D3hockey.com. The Cadets edged Castleton 2-1 in double overtime in the quarterfinals and topped UMass-Boston 6-3 in their semifinal game last weekend.

Coby Downs leads Norwich with 25 points on 11 goals and 14 assists. Braden Ostepchuk has played the majority of minutes in goal. He has registered a 2.04 goals against average, a .924 save percentage and a 12-5-2 record.
