CLINTON, N.Y.—The No. 13 William Smith College lacrosse team dropped a non-league game 12-3 to No. 14 Colby today on Hamilton College's Withiam Field in Clinton, N.Y. The Herons are now 2-2 overall, while the Mules improve to 1-2 this season.

Kendall Smith led Colby with three goals. Grace Langmuir had two goals and Grace Crowell chipped in a goal and an assist, recorded two ground balls and won a game-high five draws. Kayla Luparello had a team-high three caused turnovers and scooped up three ground balls. Izzy Scribano had six saves in all 60 minutes in goal.
Colby scored the first five goals of the game to take control early. Kelsey Bowen and Sasha Fritts each scored on free positions in the first 4:19. Robyn Pirie made it 3-0 off a feed from Jackie Brokaw and Gwen Geisler found the back of the net after a pass from Emma Banks to make it 4-0. Kendall Smith followed with a free position goal with 17:30 left in the first.
Moore put the Herons on the board with back-to-back goals. The first came on a free position with 16:42 left in the first, and her second came with 10:31 before the break. Moore leads the Herons with eight goals this season.
The Mules got free position goals from Langmuir and Bridget Horwood to take a 7-2 lead into halftime. Smith opened the second half with another free position goal for the Mules 10:28 in. An unassisted tally by Crowell extended the Mules' lead to 9-2 with 17:03 remaining. With 14:17 on the clock, senior
Ali Burns drilled a shot into the netting from long range for the Herons to make it 9-3, but Colby closed out the game with a free position goal from Langmuir, a goal from Kate Burkett assisted by Crowell and a third free position tally from Smith.
The Mules logged a 24-20 edge in shots. The Herons held a 22-19 advantage in ground balls, while Colby won 11 draws to William Smith's six. The Mules were successful on 14-of-21 clear attempts, while the Herons finished 13 of 22 clear attempts.
