Archer’s 7 points lead Hobart over Wagner

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—The Hobart College lacrosse opened Northeast Conference play with an 11-5 win at Wagner College this afternoon. The Statesmen got several career-high performances in the game.

First-year Ryan Archer led the charge with a season-high seven points on two goals and a season-high five assists. Junior Matthew Pedicine dominated the faceoff X, winning 16-of-20 while scooping up a career-high nine ground balls. Senior Christopher Willman matched his career-high with three caused turnovers. Sophomore goalie Sam Lucchesi earned the win in goal with a career-high 10 saves.

Holden opened the day's scoring, firing home an extra-man goal less than two minutes into the game. The Seahawks pulled even less than a minute later on an extra-man goal by Andrew Streilein. Holden set up Aslanian's first goal of the day with under six minutes left in the opening quarter, but again, Wagner equalized, this time on Joe Lomeli's goal with about a minute left.

Hobart owned the second quarter. Less than a minute in, Holden finished a feed from first-year Tommy Mott. The Statesmen doubled their lead in the waning minutes of the half as Aslanian rifled home a pass from first-year Ryan Archer. Archer also set up the next Hobart goal as Kyle Grimaldi extended the lead to 5-2 going into halftime.

Wagner (2-5, 0-1) cut its deficit to two early in the third quarter, but Hobart netted back-to-back goals 18 seconds apart to take a 7-3 lead into the fourth quarter. Aslanian completed his hat trick, assisted by Justin Scott, with 69 seconds left. The Statesmen won the ensuing faceoff and used some nice passing to get Archer a wide open shot on the crease. Holden assisted on the goal.

The Seahawks opened the fourth-quarter scoring, but Archer dunked home his second goal off a feed from Aslanian less than two minutes later. Archer kept his hot streak going, feeding Scott for a 9-4 lead with just over 10 minutes left. Scott netted the next two Hobart tallies to complete his hat trick.
