ORLANDO, Fla.-The William Smith College tennis team defeated New Paltz 6-1 in a rain shortened match this afternoon. With the win, the Herons improve to 4-1 on the season and have won 12 of their last 13 matches in the state of Florida.

William Smith was also scheduled to take on North Central College at 5 p.m. The match was postponed due to rain.

Against the Hawks, the Herons swept doubles play to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Senior
Michaelann Denton and first-year
Dina Rigas defeated Brittany Grandville and Carol Tyson 8-3. Denton and Rigas are 5-4 as a doubles team, including a 3-2 record in the top spot. Sophomores
Kate Foley and
Allie Perron cruised to an 8-2 victory at No. 2. First-years
Charlotte Engebrecht and
Katelyn Nguyen rolled to an 8-1 win at No. 3 to close out doubles play.

In singles play, Perron bested Brittany Grandville 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 1 spot. Perron is 2-1 in the top spot of the lineup for the Herons this spring.
Charlotte Engebrecht picked up her second win of the day with a 4-6, 6-1, 10-6 victory over Emi Lewis. Sophomore
Leland Barclay wrapped up the match for William Smith with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Victoria Zezula in the No. 6 spot. Barclay is a team best 7-0 in singles play this season. Denton and Foley were unable to complete their matches, playing at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

Courtney Koran logged New Paltz's lone point with a 1-6, 6-4, 10-8 win over Rigas in the fifth singles position.

William Smith's next scheduled match will be on Thursday, March 22, when it takes on Colorado College. The match with the Tigers is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
