Statesmen best Yellowjackets 6-3

GENEVA, N.Y.-The Hobart College tennis team notched a 6-3 win over Rochester in Bristol Field House this afternoon. The Statesmen, who were ranked 38th in the nation the Oracle/ITA Division III Men's Team Rankings announced today, are 7-5 on the season.
 
Hobart jumped in front in the match thanks to a pair of doubles wins. First-year Walker Anderson and junior Jonathan Atwater posted an 8-4 win over Jun Yuminaga and Yifan Shen. The win was Anderon and Atwater's third of the season. Sophomore Alan Dubrovsky and junior Jonah Salita, the Northeast Region's eighth ranked doubles team, bested Masaru Fujimaki and Peter Huang 8-5 in the No. 1 spot. Dubrovsky and Atwater are a team best 13-6 in doubles play this year with a 7-5 record in the top spot. The Yellowjackets (6-10) squeaked out a 8-7 (7-5) win in the third spot.
 
Salita extended Hobart's lead in the match to 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Yuminaga at No. 2 singles. Salita's third straight win was his 11th of the season. Rochester cut the lead in half with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles. The Statesmen responded, winning the next two singles matches to clinch the overall victory. Anderson bested Tanmay Thakkar, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 while senior Harry Nichols won a three set thriller, 6-2, 3-6, 6-0, at No. 3. With the win, Anderson is 11-5 in his rookie campaign. Nichols is 6-3 on the year. Atwater gave Hobart a 6-2 victory at No. 3. He rallied to defeat Yifan Shen 4-6, 7-5, 10-3. Atwater is 13-5 in singles matches this year with a team best 7-2 mark in the No. 3 spot. The Yellowjackets closed out the match with a 7-5, 6-7 (2-7), 10-7 victory at No. 6.
 
Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, Apr. 14, when it hosts Union in Geneva, N.Y. The Liberty League match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
