POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-The William Smith College tennis team was defeated by Vassar, which was ranked 29th in the latest Oracle/ITA Division III Women's National Rankings, 8-1 at the Josselyn Tennis Courts this afternoon. The Herons are 11-6 overall this season and 4-3 in Liberty League play.

The Brewers (13-6, 7-1) took control of the match with doubles wins in the top two spots. Vassar won 8-4 at No. 1 and 8-2 at No. 2. William Smith first-years

Charlotte Engebrecht notched an 8-6 win over Meghan Rodick and Courtney Geiss at No. 3. Engebrecht and Nguyen are now 8-2 in doubles matches this spring.

The Brewers swept singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets. Vassar clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles.

The Herons will close out their regular season tomorrow afternoon in Troy, N.Y., with a Liberty League match against Rensselaer. With a 4-3 record in conference play, William Smith has already clinched a spot in next weekend's six-team Liberty League Tournament. With a win the Herons can lock up the fourth seed.
