Herons ranked No. 5 in the nation

The William Smith College soccer team is ranked No. 5 in the nation in both the United Soccer Coaches poll and the D3soccer.com poll this week.
 
The Herons (4-1-0) are coming off a 1-1-0 week in non-conference play. William Smith defeated Geneseo 3-0 on Wednesday before falling to Rochester 2-1 on Saturday. The Herons are led offensively by senior Megan Barwick and sophomore Julia Keogh, who have seven points on three goals and one assist. Senior Sarah Olick-Sutphen and sophomore Sheila McQuillen share the team lead with two assists apiece. First-year Amanda Kesler has played a majority of the minutes in goal for William Smith. She is 4-1-0 with a 0.42 goals against average and a .800 save percentage.
 
The Herons begin a two-game road trip tomorrow, Sept. 19, when they head to Dallas, Pa., to take on 24th-ranked Misericordia at 4 p.m. The Cougars are 4-1-1 and are coming off a 1-0 loss to Arcadia on Saturday. Jordyn Martini leads the team with six points on two goals and two assists. Kendall Pearage also has two goals this season. Alexis Benedetto has played every minute in goal for the Cougars. She has a 0.46 goals against average and a .833 save percentage.
 
The Herons and the Cougars have met twice before with William Smith emerging victorious in both games. Fans can follow tomorrow's action at Misericordia's Mangelsdorf Field with Live Stats and Video.
 
The Herons will begin Liberty League play on Saturday, Sept. 22, in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., against Skidmore. The Thoroughbreds enter the week with a 3-2-0 overall record and have lost their last two games. Skidmore's offense runs through Yasmine Boukari, who has four goals and two assists for 10 points. Vivian Montgomery-Walsh and Ava Keller have split time in goal. Montgomery-Walsh is 3-1-0 with a 1.31 goals against aveage and a .667 save percentage. Keller has a 1.50 goals against average and a .571 save percentage.  
 
Saturday's meeting will be the 34th between William Smith and Skidmore. The Herons hold a 27-1-5 lead in the series. Fans can follow the action with Live Stats and Video.
