GENEVA, N.Y.-The eighth-ranked William Smith College soccer team scored four times in the first half as they cruised to a 5-1 win over Bard on Cozzens Field today. With the win, the Herons are now 7-2-0 on the season and 3-0-0 in conference play.

Sheila McQuillen each had two goals for William Smith while sophomore
Amanda Adams recorded a pair of helpers in the victory. Sophomore
Merilyn Hinrichs also scored for the Herons.

McQuillen opened the scoring in the sixth minute. She stole the ball off a Bard player's foot, dribbled the ball down the left wing and buried a shot past Abigail Stanley inside the right post. It was the Herons' only unassisted goal of the game.

The Raptors (4-4-1, 0-2-0) tied the game when Dylan McDonald capitalized on a William Smith defensive miscue. She dribbled around the goalie five yards outside the box and shot it into the open net.

Barwick gave William Smith the lead for good just over two minutes later. She collected a crossing pass from sophomore
Julia Keogh at the penalty dot and fired a shot past Stanley into the cage. The Herons doubled their lead in the 26th minute when McQuillen sent home her second goal of the game. Adams collected the ball and sent a leading pass to McQuillen that split two defenders. McQuillen took two steps and shot the ball past the goalie. Barwick added her second goal of the game and team leading fifth of the season three minutes later. Off a free kick, she found herself on the receiving end of a one-touch pass from senior
Sarah Olick-Sutphen and one-timed the ball past Stanley. Sophomore
Maialen Martinez was credited with an assist after setting the free kick in motion.

Hinrichs closed out the scoring in the 52nd minute with her first goal of the season. She collected a pass from Adams that split two defenders and buried a shot inside the right post.

The Herons used all four of the goalies on the roster in today's game. Romines started in goal and played 33:14. Senior
Kaileen Murray was the first goalie off the bench and she played just under 22 minutes, making one stop. First-year
Amanda Kesler played just under 24 minutes in the second half before giving way to fellow first-year
Justine Pearson. Pearson made one save in 11 minutes of action.  Stanley played all 90 minutes in goal for the Raptors and made eight saves.

William Smith finished the game with a 24-5 edge in shots on goal and earned a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Herons begin a season-long four game road trip on Wednesday, Oct. 3, when they head to Ithaca. The match with the Bombers is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
