POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-The William Smith College soccer team scored four second half goals on its way to a 4-1 victory over Vassar in a Liberty League contest on Gordon Field this afternoon. With their fifth straight win, the Herons are now 9-1-1 overall and 5-0-0 in Liberty League play.

Neither team found the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes. William Smith held a 4-2 edge in shots. The Brewers (5-6-1, 2-2-0) had the lone shot on cage in the first half but sophomore
Amanda Kesler smothered the shot.

Emilie Sauvayre opened the scoring in the 65th minute with her first goal of the season. She ducked around a pair of defenders and chipped a shot into the upper corner of cage. Eleven minutes later, William Smith doubled its lead on first-year
Katrine Berg's first collegiate goal. Berg collected a leading pass from junior
Sheila McQuillen and fired a shot into the back of the net.

Vassar ended the shutout bid in the 78th minute when Savannah Cutler converted off a corner kick for her fifth goal of the season.

Mariah Deschino's third goal of the season gave William Smith a 3-1 lead. She dribbled the ball into the box, deked around a defender and lobbed a shot into the left side of the cage. Berg was credited with an assist on the goal. Senior
Genevieve Carpenter rounded out the scoring in the 89th minute. She slid a shot past a diving Fiona Walsh for her first collegiate goal. First-year
Grace Gillian was credited with an assist on the goal.

The Herons finished the game with a 17-8 advantage in shots and a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.

Kesler played all 90 minutes in goal for William Smith and made three saves. Fiona Walsh made four saves in 90 minutes in goal for Vassar.

The Herons will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 18, when it welcomes Rensselaer to Cozzens Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
