Hobart moves up, Sternbach honored

The Hobart College hockey team moved up one spot to No. 5 in the latest USCHO.com poll. In addition, senior Zach Sternbach was named the New England Hockey Conference's Co-Player of the Week.  By the conference office this afternoon.
 
Sternbach led the Statesmen with five points on two goals and three assists against Johnson and Wales and Suffolk last week. On Friday night, he had a goal and two assists as Hobart knocked off the Wildcats 9-0. Sternbach had an assist in the second period and then added a goal and an assist in the third period. The next night he had a goal and an assist as Hobart rallied to defeat the Rams 7-4. Sternbach is now tied for the team lead with five points.
 
Hobart, which is 3-0-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the NEHC, will welcome Norwich and Castleton to The Cooler this weekend for a pair of games. Through four games, the Statesmen offense has been firing on all cylinders.  Hobart is second in the nation in scoring offense (5.50 gpg). Sternbach, senior Lawson MacDougall and junior Alec Robitaille share the team lead with five points each. Joe Halstrom has played every minute in goal this season. He is 3-0-1 with a 1.72 goals against average and a .925 save percentage.
 
On Friday, the Statesmen will host Norwich at 7 p.m., for an "Orange Out." Fans are encouraged to wear orange to the game and the first 200 students in attendance will receive a free orange t–shirt.
 
The Cadets, who moved up to No. 1 in this week's poll, are 3-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in NEHC play. Norwich is coming off a 1-0 victory over Southern Maine last weekend. Felix Brassard leads the team with six points (3g, 3a). Coby Downs and Maxime Borduas is right behind him with four points each. Tom Aubrun has played every minute in goal and has stopped all 67 shots he has faced this season.
 
Friday's game will be the 10th overall meeting between the two teams in a series that is deadlocked at 4-4-1. The Cadets, however hold a slight 1-0-1 edge in Geneva.
 
On Saturday, Hobart will take on the Spartans at 4 p.m. Castleton is 1-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in NEHC play. Castleton will be at Skidmore on Friday night. The Spartans are led by a trio of players with four points. Alex Maunula and Calvin Moise have a goal and three assists and Troy Taylor has four assists. Brandon Collett and Kyle Alaverdy have split time in goal. Collett is 0-2-0 with a 5.80 GAA and a .857 save percentage. Alaverdy has a 4.02 GAA and a .842 save percentage.
 
Saturday's game will be the sixth all-time meeting between Hobart and Castleton. The Statesmen lead the series 5-0-0.
