Statesmen fall to Montclair 2-0

LANCASTER, Pa. —The Hobart College soccer team fell to Montclair State 2-0 at Tylus Field this evening. The Statesmen wrap up their season with a 14-5-2 overall record.
 
The game was scoreless until the 50th minute when the Red Hawks were awarded a penalty kick. Damian Kolodziej scored to put Montclair up 1-0. The Red Hawks scored their second goal 64 minutes in.
 
Juniors Kyle Mangold and Pete Critchlow had Hobart's best scoring chances early in the game. Mangold was a couple yards out from the goal when he got his shot off, but Michael Mejia was able to make the save. Senior Brian Salazar saved three shots to end the first half.
 
After Montclair scored their first goal, Hobart countered with three corner kicks. Seniors Nick Wigglesworth and Kyle Patrick were able to get shots off, but they went wide. The Red Hawks began to put pressure on Salazar, getting two shots off in the 64th minute. Salazar was unable to get his hands on Colin Mulligan's shot, and Montclair increased their lead to 2-0.  Four minutes later, the Statesmen tried to set up Mangold, giving him two opportunities to get a header shot off. Critchlow and junior August Martini tried to score late in the game, but the Red Hawks' defense blocked their shots.
 
Hobart edged Montclair 11-10 in shots, and 6-4 in corner kicks. Mejia made two saves and Salazar stopped six shots.
 
Today was the final game for Hobart seniors Brian Salazar, Ben Barnes, Cooper O'Connell, Tristan Cornell Roberts, Nate Cary, Binjo Emmanuel, Jack Bizub, Mike Goulart, Sam Eaton, Nick Wigglesworth, Ben Orr, and Kyle Patrick. The 12 members of the Class of 2020 finished their four-year careers with an overall record of 42-23-12.  They won two Liberty League tournament titles, advanced to the second round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament, and advanced to the first round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
