NEW LONDON, CONN.—The William Smith hockey team fell to Connecticut College 7-0 this afternoon. The Herons fall to 7-4-0 overall this season, and the Camels improve to 6-3-0.

Olivia Williams made 19 saves in 23:42. Sophomore
Amanda Aalto stopped five shots in the reaming 36:18.
Erin Dillon (2g, 2a) led Connecticut College with four points. Kylie Wilkes (2a), Melanie Conca (2g), and Sammie Estes (2g) each recorded two points for the Camels. Carly Denora stopped four shots in the first 30:16. Abby Wieczorek made 14 saves in 29:40 for the win.
Connecticut College opened the scoring 5:12 in when Estes fired off a shot from Catherine Lawrence. Three minutes later, Lauren Helm almost added another goal for the Camels, but her shot hit the pipe. First-year
Julianna Gong recorded two of the four shots the Herons put on net in the first period.
The Camels increased their lead to 2-0 when Dillon passed the puck across the ice to Natalie Witkowski. Wilkes was also credited with an assist. A minute later, Caroline O'Keef passed the puck to Estes, who worked the puck along the boards. Estes made her way towards the middle of the zone and wristed a shot past Williams. Connecticut College kept up the pressure, and Conca and Dillion added two more goals. With five minutes left in the period, the Herons rallied and got seven consecutive shots off, but Wieczorek let nothing by her. With less than a minute left in the second period, the Camels took advantage of the power-play, and Conca fired a shot past Aalto off assists from Wilkes and Dillon.
Dillon tallied a short-handed goal 4:19 into the third period. The Herons shut down Connecticut College for the rest of the period, keeping the shots on goal even 6-6.
Connecticut College finished with a 31-18 advantage in shots on goal. The Camels were 1-for-3 with the extra skater. William Smith was 0-for-3 on the power-play.
The Herons will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 4, when they host Amherst. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at The Cooler.
