GENEVA N.Y.-The Hobart College ice hockey team cruised to a 5-0 victory over Babson in a New England Hockey Conference contest at The Cooler this evening. With the win the Statesmen, who were ranked 14th in the latest USCHO.com poll, are now 15-6-1 overall this season and 9-5-1 in conference play.

Four different players recorded multi-point games in the win for Hobart. Sophomore
Travis Schneider scored twice, first-year
Zach Tyson and senior
Matt Pizzo had a goal and an assist, and first-year
Aaron Maguyon had two assists. First-year
Liam Lascelle made 31 saves as he recorded his third shutout of the season. Bryan Botcher made 32 saves in goal for the Beavers (15-5-2, 10-3-2). Babson entered the game ranked No. 12 in the USCHO.com poll and No. 13 in the D3hockey.com poll.

Neither team found the back of the net in the first period. Hobart finished the opening 20 minutes with a 13-7 edge in shots on goal. Babson's best scoring opportunity came late in the first when Connor Dahlman had a shot from the point turned aside by a Lascelle glove save.

The Statesmen opened the scoring just over a minute into the second period. Tyson broke up a crossing pass at his own blue line and raced the length of the rink. He wristed a shot from slot past Botcher. Tyson's sixth goal of the season was a shorthanded goal. Hobart has a league best five shorthanded tallies this season. Three minutes later, the Statesmen doubled their lead on Pizzo's second goal of the season. He fired a shot from the point that deflected off a Babson defender's stick and into the back of the net. Tyson and Maguyon were credited with assists on the goal. Schneider's first goal of the game came at the 8:33 mark of the second period. Schneider collected a pass from Maguyon at the offensive blue line, deked around a defender and flipped a backhand over Botcher. Sophomore

Zach Sternbach's fifth goal of the season extended Hobart's lead to 4-0. He redirected a
Jonas Toupal shot past Botcher. Junior
Lawson MacDougall was credited with the secondary assist on the goal. Schneider sealed the deal for Hobart with his team-leading 12th goal of the season at the 18:29 mark of the third period.

Hobart finished the game with a 37-31 edge in shots on goal. Neither team converted on the power play. The Statesmen were 0-for-1 with the man advantage and the Beavers were 0-for-2.

Hobart will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they welcome UMass Boston to The Cooler. Faceoff against the Beacons is scheduled for 4 p.m.
