Fleurizard, Lucas post double-doubles to help topple Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team ended the regular season with a 76-74 Liberty League win at Union College this afternoon. The Statesmen got a pair of double-doubles from junior forward Edens Fleurizard and senior Jamal Lucas.

Fleurizard logged game-highs of 17 points and 12 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. He also blocked a game-high four shots. Lucas' fourth double-double of the season included 11 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Jack Lesure added nine points for Hobart (15-10, 12-6).

The Statesmen controlled the glass, outrebounding the Dutchmen 46-30.

Mike Concannon and Mike Manley led Union with 12 points apiece. Brian Noone added 11 points.

The Dutchmen (10-14, 6-12) led 34-28 at halftime and stretched their lead to as many as nine midway through the second half. Hobart used a 12-1 swing to take its first lead of the game. Junior Tucker Lescoe started and capped the run with 3-pointers, the latter gave the Statesmen a 60-58 advantage with about eight minutes to go.

Over the next three minutes, the teams traded the lead back-and-forth. Lucas put Hobart in front for good with a pair of free throws near the five-minute mark and first-year Matt Kitzman followed with a 3-pointer to make it a four-point game.

Union twice trimmed Hobart's lead to one down the stretch, but senior Colin Dougherty drained a 3 to quell the first threat and made 1-of-2 at the line to complete the day's scoring after Noone made a 3-pointer in the waning seconds of the game.

The Statesmen will enter the six-team Liberty League Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 Bard (13-12, 9-9) in the first round on Tuesday, Feb. 19. Tipoff in Bristol Gym is scheduled for 8 p.m.
