Herons, Statesmen to host playoff games

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart and William Smith Colleges basketball teams will host Liberty League Tournament first round game on Tuesday, Feb. 19 in Bristol Gymnasium. The Herons will tipoff at 6 p.m. against Union College, with the Statesmen taking on Bard College in the second game at 8 p.m.
 
There is a whiteout forecast for Bristol Gym. Both Hobart and William Smith will wear their home white uniforms and fans are asked to support the Herons and Statesmen by wearing white. T-shirts will be given away to students before and during the William Smith game, while supplies last.
 
The Herons are the No. 4 seed in the six-team tournament. William Smith finished the regular season with a 16-8 overall record and a 12-6 mark in conference play. Senior Mia Morrison leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 18.9 ppg and 9.8 rpg. Sophomore Stavriana Dimitrakopoulou 11.2 ppg and 5.5 rpg.
 
The Dutchwomen are the No. 5 seed after compiling a 16-8 record, including an 11-7 league record. Senior Nicole Conley paces Union with 14.7 ppg and 8.2 rpg. The Dutchwomen swept the season series, including Saturday's 67-61 decision in Schenectady.
 
The third-seeded Statesmen begin tournament play with a 15-10 overall record and a 12-6 conference mark. Hobart's lineup features four players averaging 10 or more points per game led by senior Colin Dougherty's 17.8 ppg. Classmate Jamal Lucas adds 14.9 ppg and junior Tucker Lescoe chips in 13.0 ppg. Junior Edens Fleurizard produces 10.0 ppg and a team-high 7.8 rpg.
 
The sixth-seeded Raptors are making their first appearance in the Liberty League Tournament after posting a 13-12 mark while going 9-9 in league play. Bard's roster also features four players averaging more than 10 points per game. Sophomore Alijah Rue leads the team at 17.0 ppg. Sophomore Justyn Rogers contributes 14.9 ppg and a team-leading 8.0 rpg. Seniors David Runcie and Armando Dunn add 13.9 ppg and 11.9 ppg, respectively.
 
Hobart won both meetings between the teams this season, eking out an 83-80 win in Geneva on Feb. 9.
