Statesmen sweep Oneonta in spring opener

GENEVA, N.Y.-The Hobart College tennis team defeated Oneotna 9-0 in Bristol Field House this afternoon. With the win, the Statesmen improve to 1-1 overall in dual matches this season.
 
Hobart took a 3-0 lead in the match following a sweep of doubles play. Junior Colin Molloy and first-year Jack Ledford opened the match with an 8-0 win over Kiran Narsipur and Matthew Reinhold. Senior Jonathan Atwater and first-year Thomas Shung knocked off Dalton Capobianco and Riley Smith 8-0. Sophomore Walker Anderson and junior Alan Dubrovsky, the nation's eighth ranked doubles team, bested Marco Ammirati and Nicholas Fox 8-1.
 
Hobart closed out the contest winning all six singles matches in straight sets. Anderson defeated Capobianco 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 to give the Statesmen a 4-0 lead in the match. Dubrovsky, who entered the spring season as the nation's fifth-ranked singles player, clinched the overall victory for Hobart, besting Amimirati 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1. Dubrovsky is 12-3 in singles play this season. Shung topped Alexander Reiley 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 5 spot. Ledford improved to 5-3 in his rookie season, dispatching Riley Smith 6-1, 6-0 in the fourth spot. Atwater and Molloy won in the No. 2 and No. 6 spots, respectively.
 
Hobart will be back in action next Sunday March 3, when they welcome Oberlin to Geneva. The match is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. in Bristol Field House.
