GENEVA, N.Y.-The William Smith College ice hockey team rallied to defeat Buffalo State 6-4 in a non-conference contest at The Cooler this evening. With the win, the Herons are 15-6-1 overall on the season.

Marykate Martino (2g,) and
Julia Mings (2a), and junior
Gina Scibetta (1g, 1a), recorded multi-point games in the victory for William Smith. First-year
Gaby Henry started in goal for the second consecutive game and made 31 saves as she earned the victory. William Smith added a season-high 25 blocked shots in the contest. Lila Toczek (2g) and Emily Ruggiero (1g, 1a) each had multi-point games for the Bengals (6-13-2). Bri Gawronski made 35 saves in 60 minutes in goal for Buffalo State.

Scibetta opened the scoring at the 6:53 mark of the opening period. She forced a turnover in the neutral zone, deked around a defender and wristed a shot past Gawronski for her 17th goal of the season. It was an unassisted goal. The Herons doubled their lead four minutes later when sophomore
Jules Kennedy fired home her 16th goal of the season. Mings and sophomore
Emily Martino were credited with assists on the power-play goal.

Buffalo State answered with a power-play goal of its own at the 13:38 mark of the opening period. Toczek redirected a shot from the point past Henry for her 12th goal of the season. Megan Reukauf and Ruggiero were credited with assists on the goal. Ruggiero tied the game with her 12th goal of the season. Cheyenne Matson and Jessica Carter were credited with assists on the goal.

The Bengals took the lead at the 3:18 mark of the second period when Lauren Madden wristed home her third goal of the season. Rianna Schacher was credited with an assist on the goal.

William Smith regained the lead with three unanswered goals. Eighteen seconds after Buffalo State scored to take a 3-2 lead, senior
Egan Sachs-Hecht notched her second goal of the season. She one-timed a cross ice pass from Scibetta into the back of the net. Mings was also credited with an assist on the goal.
Marykate Martino's first goal of the season put the Herons up for good at the 8:03 mark of the period. She fired a shot from the high slot past Gawronski. Sophomore
Lexi Nottke and senior
Maura Mulligan were credited with assists on the goal. Just over two minutes later, Martino banged home a rebound for her second goal of the game. Junior
Kate Klimaszewski was credited with an assist on the goal.

Toczek scored a shorthanded-goal at the 2:43 mark of the third period to make it a one goal game. She poked the puck off a stick at her own blue line, deked around a defender and wristed a shot over Henry's glove. Tozcek's 13th goal of the season was unassisted.

Senior
Laura Rollins added an insurance goal for the Herons at the 8:59 mark of the third period. She picked up a rebound and poked the loose puck over the goal line. Her second goal of the season was assisted by fellow senior
Lindsay Brown.

William Smith finished the game with a 41-35 edge in shots on goal. The Herons were 1-for-4 on the power play and limited the Bengals to one goal on their nine opportunities. William Smith, which has the nation's fourth best penalty kill unit (92.5%), killed off 90 seconds of 5-on-3 time late in the second period and nearly two minutes of 4-on-3 time late in the third period.
