ROCHESTER, N.Y.-Mary Grace Doyle scored with 34 seconds remaining in regulation to lift 17th-ranked St. John Fisher past 18th-ranked William Smith 11-10 in a non-conference contest at Growney Stadium this afternoon. The Herons are now 2-2 overall on the season.

Sydney DeGirolamo led the way for the Cardinals (3-1), recording a game-high five points on a goal and four assists. Mallory Eymer scored four goals in the winning effort. Logan Chase and Molly Tice each had a game-high five ground balls. DeGirolamo won a game-high six draws. Claudia Mocciaro and Morgan Hayes split time in goal. Mocciaro made four saves and Hayes stopped five shots.

Santora opened the scoring 7:25 into the game. Her third goal of the season was assisted by senior
Bizzer Gahagan. St. John Fisher answered 37 seconds later on Eymer's first goal of the game. The Cardinals took the lead just past the 10 minute mark when Alyssa Sabotka pocketed her second goal of the season. DeGirolamo recorded an assist on the goal. William Smith regained the lead off a pair of goals by Burns. Her ninth goal of the season was unassisted and first-year
Payton McMahon was credited with an assist on Burns' 10th goal of the season.

St. John Fisher used a four-goal run to build a 6-3 lead 23 minutes into the game. Doyle's first goal of the game started the run. Eymer scored a pair of goals 90 seconds apart to complete her hat trick. Chase added an unassisted goal at 26:29.

Gahagan and McMahon scored for William Smith to close out the half. Gahagan's fourth goal of the season was assisted by Santora while McMahon's fourth goal of the season was an unassisted tally.

Chase's second goal of the game gave the Cardinals a 7-5 lead 34 seconds into the second half. William Smith tied the game thanks to goals from Burns and Slagle. Burns team-leading 11th goal of the season was assisted by sophomore
Sadie Mapstone. Slagle notched an unassisted goal.
DeGirolamo and sophomore
Delia Lawver traded goals to make it 8-8 with just under 19 minutes remaining in regulation. Eymer and Allison Rupp scored to give the Cardinals a 10-8 lead with 14 minutes remaining in regulation. The Herons tied the game with goals from Mapstone and Slagle. Santora and Murphy notched assists on the goals. Doyle's goal with 34 seconds remaining would prove to be the game winner.

William Smith had a chance to tie the game with six seconds remaining in regulation. McMahon was awarded a free position attempt but Morgan Hayes stopped the point blank shot to preserve the win.

St. John Fisher finished with a 26-23 edge in shots on goal and a 21-18 advantage in ground balls. The Cardinals were successful on 17-of-21 clear attempts and the Herons went 14-of-22.

William Smith will be back in action tomorrow when they host Bard on Boswell Field at David J Urick Stadium. Opening draw is scheduled for noon. It will be the home opener for the Herons.
