RADNOR, Pa.-The 17th-ranked William Smith College lacrosse team defeated Cabrini 15-9 in a non-conference contest at ER Dixon Field this afternoon. With the win, the Herons are now 4-2 overall on the season.

Mekayla Montgomery recorded a career-high five points on two goals and an assist in the win. Sophomore
Ellie Burns continued her hat trick streak, notching her fifth hat trick in six games. Burns added an assist to finish the game with four points. First-year
Payton McMahon and sophomores
Delia Lawver and
Rachel Yackel each added two goals for the Herons. Montgomery scooped up six ground balls and caused six turnovers. She won a team-high five draws. Sophomore
Jules Kennedy made nine saves in 60 minutes in goal.

Avery Murphy finished with a team-high five points on three goals and two assists for the Cavaliers (3-4). Dana Carlson and Shea Neary each had two goals. Taylor Dimmerling raked in four ground balls and Murphy won 10 draws for Cabrini. Sam Hamalak made six saves in the Cavaliers' goal.

Burns opened the scoring for William Smith just over four minutes into the game. Her 17th goal of the season was unassisted. McMahon doubled the Herons' lead 24 seconds later when McMahon fired home her first goal of the game. Junior
Rachel Slagle was credited with an assist on the goal. Cabrini rattled off the next three goals to take a 3-2 lead at the 10:05 mark. The teams traded goals to close out the half with Yackel, Burns and
Nicki Santora scoring for the Herons. Mongomery's goal with 1:46 in the half tied the game at seven.

Lawver gave William Smith an 8-7 lead six minutes into the second half. Cabrini answered just under two minutes later on Murphy's hat trick goal. From that point, the Herons finished the game on a 7-1 run that was started by Burns' third goal of the game. Her team leading 19th goal of the season was assisted by Santora. During the run, sophomore
Kelsey Williams scored her first goal of the season. Yackel, Montgomery, and senior
Bizzer Gahagan also added goals. Dana Carlson scored with four minutes remaining in regulation to make it 13-9. McMahon and Lawver rounded out the scoring for William Smith.

The Herons used a strong defensive effort to limit the Cavaliers to just seven shots in the second half. William Smith finished the game with a 27-24 edge in shots. William Smith also earned a 25-18 edge in ground balls. The Herons were 20-of-27 clearing the ball and the Cavaliers were 16-of-23.

William Smith will be back in action on Friday, March 22, when it takes on Rensselaer. Opening draw in Troy, N.Y. is scheduled for 4 p.m.
