GENEVA, N.Y.-Three different players recorded a hat trick as the 17th-ranked William Smith College lacrosse team rallied to defeat Geneseo 13-10 in non-conference action on Boswell Field at David J Urick Stadium this afternoon. With the win, the Herons are now 7-2 overall and have won their last five games.

Sophomore
Anna Murphy led the way for William Smith with a career-high five points on three goals and two assists. Fellow sophomores
Ellie Burns and
Rachel Yackel also had three goals in the victory. Sophomore
Mekayla Montgomery scooped up a team-high five ground balls and matched Murphy, winning seven draws. Sophomore
Jules Kennedy started in goal and made nine saves as she collected her fifth win of the season.

Mallory Max (2g, 1a), Nicole Voci (2g, 1a), and Jacqui Thorsen (1g, 2a), each had a team-high three points for the Knights (4-4). Hannah Marafioti and Maddie Lee also scored twice for Geneseo. Cassidy O'Rourke brought in a game-high six ground balls. Caitlyn Merkel won four draws. Margaret Rosaschi made 11 saves in her first collegiate start.

The Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead halfway through the first half. Lee opened the scoring nine minutes into the game with her ninth goal of the season. Four minutes later, Max doubled the Geneseo lead with her 11th goal of the season. Both of the goals were unassisted. Thorsen added her 13th goal of the season one minute later. She accepted a feed from Max and beat Kennedy with a worm burner.

William Smith scored the next three goals to tie the game. Murphy dodged around a defender and fired home her eighth goal of the season. Just under two minutes later, Yackel beat Rosaschi for her 12th goal of the season. Sophomore
Sadie Mapstone was credited with an assist on the goal. Sophomore
Kelsey Williams' fourth goal of the season tied the game. She collected a pass from Murphy and bounced the shot into the back of the net.

Geneseo ended the half on a 3-1 run as they took a 6-4 lead into the break. Voci's first goal of the game and eighth of the season came off a feed from Thorsen. Marafioti fired home her 23rd goal of the season to double the lead. Max's second goal of the game, with 45 seconds remaining in the half, gave the Knights a three goal lead.

Yackel closed out the first half with her second goal of the game and 13th of the season.

William Smith outscored Geneseo 9-4 in the second half. Junior
Nicki Santora's 12th goal of the season cut the deficit to one goal just over two minutes into the second half. Megan Henderson scored her 10th goal of the season. Thorsen was credited with an assist on the goal. Murphy and Burns scored 31 seconds apart to tie the game at seven just after the five minute mark of the second half.

The Knights regained a two goal lead thanks to goals from Voci and Marafioti. It was their ninth and 24th goals of the season, respectively. Yackel completed her hat trick and sophomore
Delia Lawver scored unassisted goals to tie the game at nine with 16:41 remaining in regulation. Lee gave Geneseo its final lead of the game 30 seconds later. Her 10th goal of the season was assisted by Voci.

Burns scored the game's next two goals to give William Smith the lead for good with 11:34 remaining in regulation. Her 28th goal of the season completed her seventh hat trick of the season. It also gave the Herons their first lead of the game. Murphy and Lawver closed out the scoring. Murphy's goal completed her hat trick and was her 11th goal of the season. Lawver's tally was her ninth of the season.

The Herons finished the game with a 32-19 edge in shots. Geneseo earned a 26-21 edge in ground balls. William Smith was 17-of-22 clearing the ball and the Knights were 23-of 30 on clear attempts.

The Herons will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, March 30. William Smith welcomes Messiah to Boswell Field for a non-conference contest. Opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m.
