Scott records 100th point at SJU

PHILADELPHIA—Hobart College junior Justin Scott became the 13th Division I Statesman to record 100 career points during this afternoon's Northeast Conference showdown at St. Joseph's University. The host Hawks pulled out a 12-11 win in overtime, scoring the game-tying goal with just 0.6 seconds left in regulation.

Scott began the day with 98 career points. After a quiet first half that saw Hobart (8-3, 2-1) go into the break trailing 6-5, Scott inked his name on the scoring sheet with an assist on an extra-man goal by first-year Jason Knox. It was Knox's team-leading sixth extra-man goal, the most by a Statesman since Alex Love '15 had seven in 2012.

Sixteen seconds before the close of the third quarter, Scott rifled a shot past goalie Mike Adler to tie the game at 8 and give him 100 points. The Hawks (6-5, 2-1) won the ensuing faceoff and went back in front just 11 seconds later.

The Statesmen scored three straight to start the fourth quarter and build an 11-9 lead. Senior Stanny Gilbertson started the run with an unassisted goal 49 seconds in. Gilbertson set up first-year Derrek Madonna's team-leading third goal of the game at the 9:27 mark, giving the visitors their first lead of the game. Just over a minute later, Scott netted his 20th goal of the season, finishing a feed from junior Eric Holden, for a two-goal lead.

Holden scored his team-leading 30th goal of the season in the first quarter. He will head into next Saturday's game against Bryant with 99 career points.

With just under seven minutes left, Shane Fable completed his hat trick, setting the stage for SJU's dramatic comeback. Fifty-eight seconds before the end of regulation, Hobart was flagged for slashing, giving the Hawks a man-advantage, but with about 30 seconds left, they threw the ball away. The Statesmen advanced the ball across midfield, but gave the ball back on an errant pass with 6.1 seconds left.

SJU's Nate Patterson managed to break in on goal, scoring from the doorstep with less than a second remaining.

Patterson finished the game with a game-high four points, assisting on Matt Tufano's game winner 43 seconds into OT.

The Hawks' Zach Cole was 17-of-26 at the faceoff X, collecting a game-high 11 ground balls. Adler logged 20 saves, including several spectacular, point-blank robberies.

With three points in the game, Hobart senior Chris Aslanian raised his career total to 175, moving past Andy Boyar '66 into 14th place on the school's all-time list. Gilbertson, Aslanian and senior Matthew Pedicine shared team-high honors with four ground balls apiece.

Hobart outshot Saint Joseph's 51-38 and had a 38-36 edge in ground balls. The Statesmen were 2-for-4 with the extra man while the Hawks were 1-for-3.

The Statesmen return to action on Boswell Field at Urick Stadium at noon on April 13. The Bulldogs (3-8, 1-3) are coming off an 11-8 loss to Sacred Heart today.
