ABILENE, Texas-The fifth ranked William Smith College soccer team defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor 3-0 in a non-conference contest at the HSU Soccer Complex this evening. With the win, the Herons are now 2-0-0 this season.

William Smith opened the scoring in the 21st minute when first-year
Seneca Blakely-Armitage notched her first collegiate goal. She collected a pass inside the 18-yard box and fired a shot into the back of the net. Fellow first-year
Katrine Berg was credited with an assist on the goal. Junior
Charlotte Carrau had a pair of scoring opportunities in the 34th minute but both attempts were stopped by Emmalee McMaude.

Maialen Martinez extended William Smith's lead with her second goal in as many games. She collected a rebound and buried a shot into the lower left corner. Sophomore
Sarah Gray was credited with an assist on the goal. Junior
Merilyn Hinrichs rounded out the scoring in the 83rd minute with her first goal of the season. She received a pass from senior
Elizabeth Moore and flicked a shot over McMaude and across the goal line.

The Herons dominated the stat sheet, outshooting the Crusaders 22-4. William Smith also held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomore
Amanda Kesler played all 90 minutes and made one save as she posted her second consecutive shutout. McMaude played all 90 minutes in goal for Mary Hardin-Baylor, making nine saves.

The Herons will be back in action next Saturday, Sept. 7, when they welcome Messiah to Cozzens Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
