Meshanic posts double-double at Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—Hobart College sophomore Jackson Meshanic scored a career-high 19 points and grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds against Union College tonight. However, the Dutchmen made 13 3-pointers in a 71-63 win over the Statesmen.

Meshanic's first collegiate double-double came on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor and a 7-for-8 effort at the free throw line. Seven of his boards came on the offensive glass. Hobart finished with a 35-28 rebounding edge. Senior Tucker Lescoe joined Meshanic in double figures, making three 3-pointers on the way to a 14-point night. Senior Edens Fleurizard, sophomore Dan Masino and first-year Daniel Cook each finished with nine points.

Mike Concannon led Union with 19 points, including four 3-pointers. Chris Lovisolo added 10 points with three 3-pointers. The Dutchmen were able to take advantage of 17 Hobart turnovers, enjoying a 19-9 advantage in points off turnovers. Union shot 41.2% from the floor, the first team to shoot better than 40% against the Statesmen since November.

Masino made a pair of free throws near the five-minute mark of the first half, giving Hobart a 24-22 lead. Mike Manley made a 3-pointer putting the home team back in front, a lead they did not relinquish. Concannon followed with back-to-back treys, stretching Union's lead to 31-24. The Dutchmen led 37-30 at halftime.

Union (7-4, 4-2) led by as many as 11 in the second half, but Hobart scored seven straight and 16 of the next 22 points to fight back. Masino's 3-pointer near the five minute mark pulled the Statesmen within one, 55-54. The Dutchmen cooled off the comeback with an 8-2 push. Lovisolo opened the run with a 3-pointer and Concannon ended it with another triple.

Hobart got within four twice down the stretch, the second time on a dunk by Meshanic, but could get no closer.

The loss was the first for the Statesmen (11-2, 5-1) since the first week of the season, snapping a 10-game winning streak.

Hobart will return to Bristol Gym for its first home game since Dec. 10, when the Statesmen host Vassar (6-6, 2-3) on Friday, Jan. 17. The game will tip off at 7:30 p.m.
