POTSDAM, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team shot a season-high 59.2% from the floor in its 77-64 Liberty League win at Clarkson University tonight. The Statesmen improved to 13-3 overall, 7-2 in conference play, while the Golden Knights fall to 4-11, 2-6.
Hobart connected on 29-of-49 shots on the night with nine 3-pointers. The Statesmen were lights out in the second half, knocking down 16-of-24 shots. Hobart continued to dominate on the glass, outrebounding Clarkson 43-26.
Senior
Tucker Lescoe was the game's leading scorer with 22 points, including four 3-pointers. Sophomore
Jackson Meshanic posted his second double-double of the season on 17 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Senior
Sam Allen added a season-high 10 points.
Clarkson got a team-high 13 points, five rebounds and four steals from Roburt Welch. Ryan Miles-Ferguson and Matt Higgins contributed 12 points and 11 points, respectively. The Golden Knights shot 36.4% from the floor for the night.
With the game tied at 19 late in the first half, the Statesmen broke the game open with a 14-2 run. The tide turning surge was kicked off by a 3-pointer from first-year
Nicolas Rivera-Torres and capped by four straight points from Lescoe. Hobart carried a 36-26 lead into halftime. Lescoe led all first half scorers with 12 points.
Just over two minutes into the second half, Welch sank one of his three 3-pointers to pull the home team within six, 40-34. The Statesmen countered with a 9-2 push. Hobart led by at least nine and as many as 16 the rest of the way.
Hobart continues Liberty League play Saturday, Jan. 25 at St. Lawrence (5-9, 3-5). Tipoff in Canton is set for 4 p.m.
