GENEVA, N.Y. — The Hobart College lacrosse team defeated Colgate 21-13 in the Thomas B. Poole '61 and Family Sports Dome this afternoon. Senior

Hobart started the first quarter off with two goals. Colgate cut the Statesmen's lead 2-1 when Cooper Belanger scored at 10:02. Knox and Holden added two more goals less than a minute apart to increase Hobart's lead to 4-1. The Statesmen ended the quarter with a 6-2 lead. Holden ended the first quarter with 4 points (2g, 2a).
Holden netted his third goal of the day with four minutes left in the second quarter. He fired a shot into the top right corner to put the Statesmen up 11-6. Hobart ended the quarter leading Colgate 12-8 when Knox scored a man-up goal of an assist from Madonna.
Holden wasted no time in the third quarter, scoring his fourth goal of the day thirty second in. Griffin Brown helped the Raiders chip away at Hobart's lead, scoring at 11:28. The Statesmen scored four unanswered goals to end the third quarter leading 17-9. Knox netted the last two goal of the quarter with assists from junior
Ryan Archer and first-year
Bobby Baltzer.
Brown and Mike Hawkins started off the scoring for Colgate in the fourth quarter, trailing 17-11. The Statesmen had another unanswered four goal run in the middle of the quarter. To start it off, first-year
Mason Romm carried the ball from the midfield line and found Grooms. Grooms fired it past Sean Collins to put the Statesmen up 18-11. The Raiders added two more goals towards the end of the game, but Hobart led 21-13 for the victory.
Hobart made 19-of-23 clearing attempts and Colgate made 20-of-22. The Statesmen had a 36-31 edge in ground balls. Senior
Sam Lucchesi made 18 saves for the win, and Collins stopped 16 shots.
The Statesmen are back in action on Friday, Feb. 28, when they travel to take on Syracuse in a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
