Game Recap: Hobart Basketball | | Ken DeBolt

Hobart win streak hits 5 with strong 2nd half vs. SLU

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team extended its winning streak to five games with a strong second half performance against St. Lawrence University tonight. The Statesmen trailed by two at halftime, but shot 57.7% in the second half on the way to a 66-52 Liberty League victory in Bristol Gym.

Hobart (17-3, 11-2) shook off a lackluster first half performance that saw the home team shot just 29.4% overall while going 3-for-19 from downtown. After halftime, the Statesmen looked like a different team, starting the second half on a 12-5 run fueled entirely from beyond the arc.

SLU junior Chris Jeffrey made a layup to open the half, but sophomore Dan Masino answered with a 3-pointer and then senior Tucker Lescoe cashed in on a Saints turnover, hitting another triple for a 32-30 Hobart lead. Junior Brandon Arnold knocked down a 3 for St. Lawrence for a 33-32 edge, the visitor's final lead of the night. Lescoe and first-year Daniel Cook splashed back-to-back treys to put the Statesmen up by five.

Over the next 10 minutes, Hobart outscored SLU 22-8, building a 17-point advantage. Five different Statesmen scored during the run, led by first-year Andrew Lynch's six points. Hobart was 5-of-8 from behind the arc during the surge.

After making 9-of-15 from deep in the second half, Hobart finished the game shooting 41.7% overall, 35.3% from long range and 50% at the line. The Statesmen outrebounding the Saints 38-32 and committed three fewer turnovers.

Lescoe paced a balanced scoring effort for Hobart, notching 15 points and a game-high five assists. Sophomore Jackson Meshanic produced 12 points and eight rebounds. Senior Edens Fleurizard was two points shy of a double-double, finishing with eight points and a team-high 10 boards.

First-year Trent Adamson led St. Lawrence with 15 points, 11 boards and four blocked shots. Jeffery contributed 14 points and seven boards.

Hobart will be back in Bristol Gym at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, hosting Clarkson (7-13, 5-8), which won at RIT 90-80 tonight.
