WOOSTER, Ohio—The William Smith College tennis team fell to Wooster 6-3 this afternoon. The Herons fall to 0-3 overall this season.
The Herons had a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Sophomore
Maggie Bonomo and senior
Morgan Hamre defeated Sarah Duran and Laura Haley 8-4 in the No. 3 spot. Bonomo and Hamre have won three doubles matches this season. Seniors
Kate Foley and
Allie Perron downed Qingyue Li and Shannon Sertz 8-5 in the No. 1 spot for their fourth doubles win of the season. Juniors
Charlotte Engebrecht and
Katelyn Nguyen fell to Ishika Gupta and Kathryn Materick 8-6 in the No. 2 spot.
In singles play, Bonomo topped Li 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, in the No. 1 spot. Bonomo is 7-4 overall this season. Perron fell to Gupta 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 in the No. 2 spot. Foley lost to Sertz 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 3 spot. Nguyen and Engebrecht fell in straight sets at Nos. 4 and 5 respectively. Hamre lost to Haley 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 6 spot.
The Herons will be back in action Monday, Mar. 16, when they open their spring break trip with a match against University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in Orlando, Fla.
