The William Smith College soccer team held at No. 6 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Poll and moved up one spot to No. 6 in the D3soccer.com poll. The Herons, who have won their last 11 games will hit the road to take on Vassar on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 3 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, New York.
William Smith is 12-1-1 overall and 7-0-0 in Liberty League play following a pair of victories this past weekend, knocking off Union 8-0 and Renssealer 3-0. The Herons currently sit atop the Liberty League standings with 21 points and have clinched at least a share of their 14th consecutive regular season title.
William Smith's offense is one of the best in the nation, ranking in the top 25 in several categories. The Herons are first in total assists (48), second in assists per game (3.43), third in scoring offense (3.93), points per game (11.29), and total points (158), fourth in total goals (55), and 12th in winning percentage (.893). The Herons are also in the top five in shots on goal per game (3rd, 13.93), and shots per game (5th, 25.64).
William Smith's defense is just as impressive. The Herons have posted 10 consecutive shutouts and have allowed just one goal in the last 12 matches. William Smith is allowing a mere five shots per game. The Herons lead the nation in shutout percentage (0.857) and their 12 shutouts are the most in any division of women's college soccer. The Herons are eighth in goals against average (0.35) and 14th in save percentage (.878).
Julia Keogh is having a breakout year, leading the Herons with 33 points and 14 goals, ranking fourth and fifth in the nation in those categories, respectively.
Katrine Berg has a team best eight assists.
Amanda Kesler has played a majority of the minutes in goal, posting a 9-1-0 overall record and a 0.41 goals against average.
Vassar is 8-4-1 overall with a 3-2-1 mark in Liberty League play. The Brewers are coming off a North Country sweep of Clarkson and St. Lawrence, posting a pair of 2-0 victories. Offensively, Vassar is led by Skylar Herrera-Ross, who has five goals and one assist. Jacqueline Morrison is right behind her on eight points and four goals. Claire Mackenzie played both games in goal last weekend. She is 3-0-0 overall with a 0.00 GAA and a 1.000 save percentage. Julia Reigrut has played more minutes and is 3-3-1 with a 1.81 GAA and a .567 save percentage.
Saturday's game will be the 26th meeting between William Smtih and Vassar. The Herons lead the all-time series 23-1-1, including a 10-0-0 record in Poughkeepsie.
External spectators (non-students/employees) age 12 or older must be fully vaccinated or have a negative PCR COVID-19 test taken within three days of the event or a negative rapid antigen test the day of the event. External spectators should be prepared to provide proof of vaccination or a copy of a negative test if requested by event personnel. Masks are not required.
