SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—William Smith forward
Sofia Pattillo scored twice but the Herons came up a goal short in a 3-2 setback at Union College this afternoon. Emily Dawson scored twice for the Dutchwomen, including the game winner with under four minutes remaining.
Union was outshot 6-3 in the first quarter, but still came out of the opening frame with a lead thanks to Dawson's first tally. The Dutchwomen (4-5, 1-1) stretched their lead to 2-0 less than two minutes into the second quarter when Isabel Lubin fired home a penalty stroke for her third goal of the season.
Midway through the third quarter, Pattillo made it a one-goal game redirecting a shot by
Lea Mateo Medina. She tied the game two minutes into the fourth quarter with an unassisted goal, her fifth of the season.
Dawson notched her seventh goal of the year with 3:23 left in the game, putting away a pass from Jaden Greenwald. William Smith was unable to generate another shot in the waning minutes of the game.
William Smith outshot Union 14-10 overall, but Dutchwoman goalie Heather Poisson made nine saves to earn the win.
