Hobart to host Brockport in hoops home opener

Meshanic named to Liberty League honor roll

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team will host SUNY Brockport in its home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 16. Tipoff in Bristol Gymnasium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
 
All spectators are asked to monitor their health and stay home if experiencing any COVID symptoms. Spectators are required to wear a properly fitting mask while inside Bristol Gymnasium.
 
The game will be broadcast live on WHWS-FM (105.7). Fans can watch the game on HWS All-Access and track the action with Live Stats.
 
Hobart opened the season with a three-game road trip, defeating Keuka and SUNY Poly before falling to Oswego State. The Statesmen are led by forward Jackson Meshanic, who earned a spot on the Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll for his play in Oswego's Max Ziel Tournament over the weekend.
 
Meshanic was named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 17.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg while shooting 60% from the floor and 50% from 3-point range. In Friday's 65-48 win over SUNY Poly, he posted 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting and nine rebounds. The following afternoon, he notched his first double-double of the season on 18 points and 11 boards in a 63-48 loss to the host Lakers.
 
Meshanic leads the Statesmen in scoring and rebounding, averaging 17.3 ppg and 9.7 rpg. Forward Chandler Owenby is second in scoring at 10.0 ppg. Guards Aidan Rodgers and Patrick Walker add 8.0 ppg apiece. Rodgers has a team-high 10 assists.
 
Brockport is off to a 1-1 start. The Golden Eagles dropped their season opener at Alfred, but rebounded to win their home opener over Morrisville State. Guard Jahidi Wallace is producing a team-best 15.5 ppg and 2.0 spg.
 
The game will be the 31st all-time meeting between the Statesmen and the Golden Eagles. The series is deadlocked 15-15. Brockport scored a 75-74 victory in the most recent showdown on Nov. 19, 2019.
