Hobart wins twice at Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y.—The 25th-ranked Hobart College squash team logged a pair of victories in matches held at Hamilton College this weekend. The Statesmen defeated Connecticut College 9-0 on Friday night and bested Hamilton 7-2 on Saturday afternoon. Hobart was defeated by 17th-ranked Tufts Saturday morning.
 
With the two wins this weekend, the Statesmen are now 4-4 overall this season.
 
Omar Kiwan was 3-0 in the No. 2 spot for Hobart, winning all three of his matches 3-0. He started the weekend dispatching the Camels' Billy Fleurima, 11-7, 11-8, 11-7. Kiwan collected Hobart's lone point against the Jumbos, defeating Kunal Valia, 11-9, 11-1, 11-6. Kiwan rolled to an 11-7, 1-3, 11-9 win over the Continentals' Waleed Nisar to close out the weekend. Kiwan has won four straight matches and is 5-3 this season.
 
In Friday's match against Connecticut College, Hobart earned eight of their nine points in 3-0 sweeps. Mo Abdelhafez knocked off Tyler Maguire, 11-2, 11-9, 8-11, 11-7 in the No. 1 spot. Roberto Vega lost only one game a single point in the No. 8 spot as he cruised past Mike Achatz, 11-0, 11-0, 11-1.  In the No. 6 spot, Giacomo Dalle Molle topped Luigi Pasquariello, 11-9, 11-9, 11-5. Joey Lantos, Hussein Labib, Sayf Elhawary Cameron Temoyan and James Mazzarelli also logged wins for the Statesmen.
 
Yesterday morning, Tufts defeated Hobart 8-1. The Jumbos won three of the eight points 3-0. Tufts won the other five points 3-1. In the closest match of the day, Labib was edged by Sanjeev Jeyabalan, 11-9, 11-9, 11-13, 11-9. In the No. 1 spot, Harry Charlton slipped past Abdelhafez, 8-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-9. 
 
Hobart closed out the weekend against Hamilton. The Statesmen clinched the victory with wins in the top seven spots in the lineup. Abelhafez improved to 4-3 on the season with an 11-9, 11-8, 11-7 victory in the No. 1 spot. Lantos slipped past Rufus Somerby 16-14, 11-7, 11-6 at No. 3. Vega logged his fifth win of the season, besting Blake Davis, 11-8, 11-8, 11-8, in the No. 7 spot.
 
The Statesmen will be back in action on Dec. 6 when it takes on Wesleyan. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at Hamilton College.
