CLINTON, N.Y.—The 27th-ranked Hobart College squash team wrapped up the 2021 portion of its schedule with an 8-1 win over Wesleyan at Hamilton College this afternoon. With the win, the Statesmen are now 5-4 on the season.
Hobart had four 3-0 wins and three 3-1 victories as they topped the Cardinals (0-3).
Omar Kiwan and
Roberto Vega logged their team-leading sixth wins of the season with their victories in the No. 2 and No. 7 spots, respectively. Kiwan extended his winning streak to five matches, besting Abhinav Gupta. Kiwan won, 8-11, 11-9, 11-2, 11-5. He is 6-1 in the No. 2 spot of the lineup. Vega knocked off Cole Zetterquist, 11-5, 11-3, 11-4. He is 4-2 in the No. 7 spot of the lineup.
Mo Abdelhafez improved to 5-3 in the No. 1 spot with his 11-4, 11-4, 11-3 victory over Shanay Sanghavi.
Joey Lantos also cruised to a 3-0 victory, topping Toby Goldston, 11-5, 11-3, 11-9, in the No. 4 spot. Lantos is 4-4 on the season.
James Mazzarelli beat Morgan Shatzman, 12-10, 11-5, 11-4, in the No. No. 8 spot. Mazzarelli is 5-4 this season.
Hussein Labib and
Giacomo Dalle Molle picked up their fifth win of the season, logging victories at No. 3 and No. 6, respectively. Labib topped John Sutherby, 8-11, 11-9, 11-2, 11-5. Dalle Molle edged Jack Lungstrum, 10-12, 11-8, 11-6, 11-4. In the closest match of the day,
Cameron Temoyan rallied for a, 9-11, 11-4, 7-11, 11-7, 11-2, victory over Andrew Doucette in the No. 9 spot.
Hobart will be back in action on Jan. 14 when it continues its run of matches against NESCAC opponents. The Statesmen are scheduled to take on Bowdoin at 3 p.m.
