CANTON, N.Y. — The Hobart College tennis team rolled to an 8-1 win over St. Lawrence in the Liberty League opener for both teams. The Statesmen are now 2-0 overall on the season.
Hobart took control of the match with a sweep of doubles play. Senior

Winter Fagerberger cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 3. Junior
Thomas Shung and sophomore
Guthrie Speers battled past Quinn Bermingham and Adam Heilbronner 8-7 (7-3) in the No. 2 spot. In the tightest of the three matches, senior
Walker Anderson and sophomore
Jett Wright edged Leo Romanetz and Nathan Turtledove 8-7 (8-6).
The Statesmen clinched the match with five singles wins. Wright and Fagerberg won their matches in straight sets in the No. 4 and No. 5 spot, respectively. Wright bested Bermingham 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 while Fagerberg topped Heilbronner 7-5, 6-2. In the top spot, Anderson logged his first singles win of the season knocking off Romanetz 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). After dropping the first set, Atwater didn't lose another game defeating Turtledove 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Shung outlasted Cole Hamilton at No. 3 singles, 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (3-7), 10-8.
Jordan Mamelak logged St. Lawrence's lone point of the match at No. 6 singles.
Hobart will be back in action next Saturday, April 3, when it hosts Skdimore at the HWS Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
