HENRIETTA, N.Y. — The William Smith College tennis team was edged by RIT 5-4 in a Liberty League contest at the RIT Tennis Courts this afternoon.
The Herons (0-4, 0-3) took a 2-1 lead out of doubles play. Junior
Maggie Bonomo and sophomore
Audreyanna Camacho knocked off Claire Casalnova and Abby Murray 8-3 in the No. 1 spot. Camacho and Bonomo are 4-0 as a doubles team this year. Seniors
Katelyn Nguyen and
Caitlin Chichora slipped past Kristen Zablonski and Jackie Drozd 8-7 (8-6) in the No. 2 spot. They are 2-2 this season in the second spot. The Tigers (2-3, 1-2) won at No. 3 for their doubles point.
Bonomo improved to 2-2 in singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 1 spot. Camacho picked up her second singles win of the season in the No. 2 spot. After dropping the first set, she rallied for a 0-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory over Kristen Zablonskki. The Tigers picked up straight set wins at Nos. 2-5. Julia Smolowitz clinched the overall victory for RIT with a three set victory over
Crystal Morgans, who was making her collegiate debut. Smolowitz won 6-2 4-6, 6-3.
William Smith will be back in action next weekend, April 24-25, when it takes on Ithaca in a pair of matches. The Bombers will host the front end of the home-and-home series on April 24 at 11 a.m. The Herons will return to the HWS Tennis Center the next day, April 25, at 11 a.m.
